Fairview's Lovejoy Highschool Jazz Band has set the stage for a night to remember as trumpet great Wayne Bergeron will appear in concert with the Lovejoy High School Jazz Band and Texins Jazz Band. The show will be Monday, May 1st, at 7:00 pm at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium. Proceeds benefit the Lovejoy Band Boosters. (Get your tickets here)
If you know who Wayne is, then you'll be there. If you don't recognize his name, you've heard his playing. He is enjoying a career as one of the most sought-after musicians in the world. Studio sessions, film dates, international touring, jazz concerts, guest appearances, and clinics keep him busy in his hometown of Los Angeles and worldwide.
Bergeron first caught the ear of many when he landed the lead trumpet chair with Maynard Ferguson's band in 1986. Bergeron can be heard on Maynard's recordings of Body and Soul, Big Bop Nouveau, Brass Attitude, and The One and Only Maynard Ferguson. Bergeron demonstrates daily why Maynard remarked, "Wayne is the most musical lead trumpet player I've had on my band."
As a sideman, Bergeron's list of recording credits reads like a "who's who" in contemporary jazz and pop, running the stylistic gamut from Ray Charles to Green Day. The Texins Jazz Band is a full 18-piece big band based in Dallas, TX. The band is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. From 1986-2019 the band operated as The Texas Instruments Jazz Band and was organized through the Texins Association (Dallas, Texas) of Texas Instruments. The Texins Association ceased operation in 2019, and the band became the Texins Jazz Band in 2020. Most band members have STEM-based degrees and careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The band is under the musical direction of Bill Centera.
