Neighborly Spotlight: How "Friends of Fairview" Keeps Our Local Heroes Strong

Here at the Getting Neighborly Podcast, we talk a lot about what makes a community feel like home. It's not just the beautiful North Texas landscape or the quiet neighborhood streets—it's the people who step up to look out for one another.
And right here in our own backyard, there's a group of dedicated residents doing exactly that for the brave men and women who protect us every single day.
If you haven't met the Friends of Fairview (FOF) yet, it's time to get neighborly with one of the most impactful grassroots organizations in our community.
Who Are the Friends of Fairview?
Founded in 2007, Friends of Fairview is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a singular, vital mission: to support the health, well-being, recruitment, and retention of the career and volunteer firefighters of the Fairview Fire Rescue Department.
While our local government covers the essentials, there are always critical items, wellness initiatives, and appreciation efforts that fall outside the standard city budget. That's where FOF steps in. Run by a passionate volunteer board of Fairview citizens, healthcare professionals, business owners, and first responders, this organization ensures that our firefighters have the extra resources, appreciation, and community backing they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.
Bringing the Community Together
What we love most about Friends of Fairview is how they turn supporting a great cause into an opportunity for neighbors to connect. You've likely seen their work around town without even realizing it!
Here are just a few ways they weave the community together:
The Holiday Flag Program: If you've ever driven through Fairview on a patriotic holiday and marveled at the beautiful American flags lining local properties, you've seen FOF in action. For Fairview residents, this program is the ultimate "set it and forget it" way to show community pride. FOF volunteers place the flags at participating locations for seven major holidays throughout the year and handle all the setup, take-down, and storage in between.
Fire Station Pancake Breakfasts: Is there anything more "neighborly" than sharing a stack of pancakes at the local fire station? FOF hosts twice-annual pancake breakfasts open to the general public. It's a fantastic way for families to meet their local firefighters, tour the station, and catch up with neighbors over coffee and sausage.
Community Tournaments & Events: From local pickleball tournaments to seasonal fundraisers, FOF is always finding fun, active ways to rally the town together for a good cause.
How You Can Get Involved
A strong community is built on action, and Friends of Fairview relies entirely on neighbors like us to keep their programs running. Here is how you can support them today:
Sign Up for the Flag Program: If you are a Fairview resident, registering for the Holiday Flag Program is a fantastic way to support FOF while beautifully honoring our national holidays.
Attend an Event: Bring the family out to the next pancake breakfast or community fundraiser. Every ticket, donation, and sponsor dollar goes directly toward supporting local first responder wellness.
Become a Sponsor or Volunteer: FOF is always looking for local businesses to join their sponsor banner and passionate residents to help manage programs, move flags, or assist with events.
Our first responders are there for us on our worst days. Organizations like Friends of Fairview ensure we are there for them on their best days.
